Major Gloucestershire route to close for essential road repairs
By Matt Hall | 20th September 2018
A main road through the Cotswolds will be shut for several nights while resurfacing work takes place.
The popular A429 between Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach is being repaired as part of Gloucestershire County Council's £150m investment into the county's roads.
The road will be closed overnight from Friday 5th October to Wednesday 17th October. To help keep disruption to a minimum, work will take place between 7pm and 7am (excluding weekends).
Highways crews will be resurfacing over 18,820 sq m of road with approximately 2,400 tonnes of material.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "We know pot hole free roads are important to residents and that is why we're investing £150m into Gloucestershire's roads to keep the county moving.
"As this is a main route into Bourton-on-the-Water we're making the improvements at night time so that any disruption can be kept to a minimum. I'd like to thank local people and businesses for their patience."
What's the diversion route?
From the northern extents of the closure follow the A429 to the junction with the A436 (Old Gloucester Road), then turn left. Continue along the A436 in direction to Andoversford. At Andoverford, at the junction with the A40 turn left towards Northleach. Follow the A40 all the way to the roundabout with the A429, at the roundabout take the first exit in direction to the A429 Stow. Follow the road to the point of closure. Diversion is the same in reverse.
