Major Gloucestershire commuter route closed for resurfacing

Starting last Friday, Gloucestershire County Council is resurfacing the A40 London Road, Compton Abdale overnight.

The A40 London Road is a popular commuter route between Cheltenham and Oxford; and will be resurfaced between the Hampnett and Compton Abdale junctions from last Friday (May 13) to Saturday, May 28.

Every effort is being taken to minimise disruption. The works will take place overnight between 7pm to 7am, so the road will still be open during peak times.

The road will also be open during weekends, apart from the night of Saturday, May 28.

Highways crews will complete vital resurfacing works along the 11,500 square metres stretch of road with 2,888 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "We have scheduled this popular route for resurfacing as part of our further £100m investment in Gloucestershire's roads over the next four-years.

"These vital improvements will create a smooth and pothole free journey for all road users. As this is a busy route, we're making the improvements at night time so that any disruption can be kept to a minimum. I'd like to thank local residents and road users for their patience."

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, county councillor for Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach, said: "I'm pleased to see this key road resurfaced and that it is being done overnight to try and minimise the inconvenience.

"I look forward to the work being completed and seeing the positive impact for local people, businesses and commuters. I'd also like to thank the local community and road users for their patience while this essential work is carried out."
