Majestic Wine stores under threat

Majestic Wine could close stores, as it focuses more on its premium online wine business.

The retailer, which has stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester, acquired online wine retailer, Naked in 2015. The Naked brand has gone from strength to strength and now Majestic plans to expand it further by moving resources away from the Majestic brand.

As a group, Majestic's sales are now 45 per cent online and 20 per cent international.

Plans to build the Naked brand include moving Majestic stores and customers to the brand and closing some Majestic stores.

It is not yet known which stores are set to close. The company says plans will be clearer in June 2019.
