Litter proves an unwelcome sight at county business park

Litter is creating an unwelcome eyesore at Newent Business Park, where visitors are greeted with it as soon as they enter the site.

When Punchline visited this week, we found verges and hedges on the entry roads littered with rubbish, including plastic bags, waste paper, bottles, cans and blue rubber gloves.

One company on the site is construction company MKM Building Supplies, that only recently moved into premises in the park.

Director Gareth Presley said: ""We have only been here a matter of a few weeks so I haven't had the chance to view much of the park as yet but obviously any litter that is lying around doesn't give a very good impression of the park for visitors.

"We would take responsibility for our units to make sure they were litter free and obviously try to keep any roads leading up to us free of debris too as we care about the environment."

The park used to be owned by MF Freeman, but they sold it on around two years ago and now most units are owned by the occupiers and the access roads have been adopted.

Punchline says: "There is really no excuse for litter like this as it reflects badly on all of the businesses that use the site and gives a bad impression for anyone visiting the park.

"We have been to trading estates all over the county and the general impression is one of tidy, clean places that are well looked after.

"However, Newent Business Park is an exception and the problem needs to be addressed by those who own the site and those who work there."
