Latest phase of £85m improvements at Kings Quarter

The latest phase of the £85m regeneration of Gloucester's Kings Quarter continues next week (7 October 2019), with improvements to parking provision in the heart of the city.

Work at King's Walk car park moves into the next phase from Monday, with improvements to the lower levels to increase the level of provision and improve access and toilet facilities.

This phase of work will see improvements at the main entrance area undertaken and will maintain the same number of spaces available on levels 4, 5 and 6.

"These improvements are part of wider efforts to make Kings Quarter a focal point for visitors, with a significantly improved retail offer at King's Walk at the heart of these ambitions," said Gloucester city council leader, Cllr Paul James.

"We are in contact with local businesses and traders, who are aware of the temporary changes while these improvements take place. I would like to thank partners and local businesses for working with us during these improvements. Their support is an important part in helping us to deliver them successfully.

"I encourage anyone who is planning to drive to King's Walk to check online for details of alternative parking provision, or other ways to travel into the city."

Peter White, centre manager of King's Walk, said: "The development of King's Walk car park will improve the customer journey and create a safer environment for our visitors.

"The car park improvements along with the addition of new public toilets and the introduction of new retailers is all part of the wider programme to ensure King's Walk remains a key retail destination in the heart of Gloucester."

The work will complete on November 8 and will focus on the car park entrance, ramps, installation of new signage and a new façade.

While these works continue, people can access the upper levels of King's Walk car park and Gloucester Guildhall from the Eastgate Centre carpark. Users can also pay to park using facilities at Eastgate.

Alternative car parking is available nearby at:

• Bruton Way NCP car park.

• Eastgate Centre Rooftop.

• Station Road.

• Hampden Way.

• Short-stay car park on Hare Lane South.
