Labour choose candidate to contest Gloucester seat

Labour have selected their candidate to fight the Gloucester seat in the next general election.
Thirty-year-old solicitor Alex McIntyre, who was chosen from a shortlist of four, said he was "beyond proud" to have been selected.
Mr McIntyre, who lives in Cam with his wife, told Punchline this morning: "At this point I presume I will be up against Richard Graham but who knows? I'm looking forward to it.
"We've had 12 years of Tory mismanagement of the economy and of public services and I'm looking forward to the challenge of winning back Gloucester for Labour and fighting for a brighter future for our city.
Mr McIntyre added: "There's no mandate for this Tory government. Obviously we would like a general election now but that is not in the Labour Party's gift and the Tories obviously want to stay in power as long as possible but I think the country would like a say."
Mr McIntyre thanked Gloucester Labour members for their support, adding: "the hard work starts now."
Mr McIntyre grew up in Yorkshire but said he had "moved around a bit". In his job as a solicitor he predominantly acts for the NHS and works remotely from home.
In the 2019 general election in Gloucester, Conservative Richard Graham had a majority of 10,277 over Labour candidate Fran Boait.
