Biggest construction company of 2019 named

The company which built Gloucester's new transport hub, boasts the highest value orders for the start of 2019.

Kier, which is also currently working on the former Gloucester police station, secured 22 contracts worth around £343m, as reported by Construction Enquirer.

The firm takes the top spot in both Construction Enquirer's top 50 contractors for January and its top 100 contractors for the last year.

Among the major contracts it has picked up are a £100m new hospital in Ascot and a £30m new cancer hospital in Bath. In London, it won the £130m Blossom Street scheme near Spitalfields market and the £20m National College for Digital Skills in North London.

Lendlease came in second place for January on the strength of its £330m order to deliver Manchester's town hall and Albert Square refurbishment programme.
