Kevin Keegan will lay your floor at a discount while the World Cup lasts

Yes, strange but true, Kevin Keegan - a name forever linked to English football - is offering to lay your floor at a discount as long as the national side stays in the World Cup.

And it is the real Kevin Keegan - just not the one you might be thinking of who led the England team's attack through the 1970s and played for the likes of Liverpool, Hamburger SV, Newcastle, Manchester United - and Scunthorpe.

This Mr Keegan, an avid England fan as it happens, is the co-founder of Cheltenham Flooring Services and he and business partner Carl Brooks are taking advantage of the World Cup feel-good factor and his name to draw a little attention to themselves.

It all started after he received a call from Screwfix to join a national squad including other great names of the past - such as Paul Gascoigne, Andy Cole and Ian Wright - to launch a national advertising campaign.

"Screwfix emailed me about taking part and I thought it was scam, so I ignored it to start with," said Mr Keegan, 52, who had trials for Plymouth Argyle as a youth and played in goal for Cheltenham Town Outcasts FC until only last season.

Screwfix assembled 15 people from the building trade with famous England footballing names (including a female Terry Butcher) at a hotel in London and shot some short films to promote their businesses. You can Cheltenham Flooring Services on LinkedIn.

It is not the first time Gloucestershire's very own Kevin Keegan has benefitted from his namesake's fame.

"It has never been a problem booking a table at a restaurant," he said.

"We once arrived at an airport in Kuala Lumpur and taxi drivers were fighting over who should take us to the hotel and when we got there all the staff were lined up to welcome us. I think they saw the funny side eventually."

Mr Keegan - he of Cheltenham Flooring Services - will be watching the game at home this evening. "I'm not drinking," he said. "I'm in training for the Great North Run to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust."

As for a prediction?

"I really want to say 2:1 England, but I am afraid I fear Croatia will do it."
