Japanese ramen bar added to Gloucester Food Dock line-up

Japanese restaurant Daikoku Ramen is joining Gloucester Food Dock.

Wife and husband team Mixuki and Hugo plan to open the doors in August, becoming the 10th name to join the hub of independent food businesses.
The couple has been making ramen since 2010 and already have a restaurant in Stroud High Street.
They describe their cooking as "Japanese soul food" and said there will be a mix of meat, fish and plant -based dishes.
Mixuki learned to cook with her father, a professor of handmade noodles at the University of Lifestyle in Gifu.

She said: "Only the springiest noodles make it to our broth, we present our dishes with great service and a smile."
Scholars believe Chinese tradesmen first brought the wheat noodles we know as ramen to the Japanese port Yokohama in the late 19th century.
So it is fitting that Daikoku is now bringing the taste of eastern Asia to Gloucester Docks.
Ingredients will be sourced locally and from overseas in Japan and diners can expect dishes similar to those on the Stroud menu which includes pork kimchi miso ramen, chicken white sesame ramen and vegan Hakata ramen.
Hugo said : "We have an ambitious desire to create truly original flavours and to redefine the classic ramen experience whilst striving for a healthy, nutritious and replenishing offer."
The name Daikoku is a nod to the god of good fortune and the kitchen- one of the seven lucky Shinto gods.

The venue will be styled after an Izakaya- a Japanese-style tavern that serves food and drink in a place where you can linger with good friends.
Ken Elliott, co-owner of Gloucester Food Dock said: "We are hugely excited by this new name.
"Daikoku will bring a new style of cuisine to the Food Dock and to Gloucester. One that will complement very well the existing line up of names."
Last month the Food Dock welcomed Strip Steak Bar and Mexican restaurant Elote .
