Italians celebrate Cotswolds limoncello anniversary

A limoncello - a lemon liqueur - made unusually in the Cotswolds, is celebrating one year in production and being on the shelves of two giant farm stores.

Stroud and Cirencester's Non Solo Pasta came up with the idea of making their own limoncello after being disappointed with the versions they had tried from various outlets.

Being Italian, Non Solo Pasta owners, Matteo Conte and Clara Cardillo, wanted a traditional version of the famous Mediterranean liqueur.

They began importing organic lemons from Sicily to produce their own batch from their production kitchen in Cirencester.

It was then only to be sold via their Stroud Five Valleys indoor market's Italian food stall and Terra, their new Italian restaurant located in Sandersons in Stroud as well as at farmers market in Cirencester as well as other markets in the area but interest came from Morris' of Usk, a large farm shop, and Gloucester Services, an award-winning venue that sells a variety of the region's produce.

"It has been another achievement for us and we are delighted that something we wanted to make just for ourselves has been so well received," Clara said. "We have had so many great comments from our customers in the restaurant as well. They say it reminds them of many holidays."

Non Solo had another reason to celebrate recently, picking up several My Guild The Great Taste Awards. Their panettone and puttanesca pasta sauce both picked up star ratings.
