WSP Solicitors is the named sponsor of a summer celebration inspired by the history and heritage of Gloucester.

'WSP Art In The City', which takes place on 15 to 16 July, will features free activities, art demonstrations, an artists' village and an outdoor, one-day painting competition,

A total of £4,500 has been offered up as prize money across three categories.

For traditional artists there is the main competition (first prize £1,500, runners-up £500), a student competition for under-18s and those in higher or further education (£750), and an international pavement art competition (total of £1,500).

Artists dotted around the city centre will be competing to best capture the spirit of Gloucester and its community, in an attempt to impress the judging panel which includes PJ Crook, Richard Parker Crook, Stroud-based Swarez and Gloucester's very own Russell Haines.

Judging will take place on the Saturday evening at Blackfriars Priory and the Adult Education Centre on Commercial Road.

WSP Solicitors will also continue their platinum sponsorship of the Gloucester Summer of Music, Arts and Culture (SoMAC), which takes place in July and August.

Supporting a prestigious art event in the city is important to WSP Solicitors, and partnering with Marketing Gloucester, with their track record in delivering high-quality events showcasing the city's vibrant culture, including last year's SoMAC that attracted 1.6million visitors, allows them to reach a large and varied audience.

WSP Solicitors added a Gloucester office three and half years ago and still operate in the same three towns that they always have of Stroud, Dursley and Nailsworth.

Judi Bonham, managing partner at WSP Solicitors said: "WSP are delighted to once again be involved in the Summer of Music, Art and Culture.

"Art in the City in particular is a fantastic event and one that has really put Gloucester on the map for Art.

"It's so refreshing to see people young and old, visitor or local coming together with a common interest.

"We are looking forward to supporting Marketing Gloucester with this and many other events over the coming months."

Marketing Gloucester CEO Jason Smith said: "We are extremely happy to be working with WSP Solicitors once again.

"Since their sponsorship of SoMAC last year, they have really put themselves on the map in attracting new clients in Gloucester with their business networking events.

"They have shown their commitment to the city through sponsorship of events that benefit the whole community."
