Increase made to council tax bills

Stroud District Council approved an increase in Council Tax bills for the next year at a meeting last Thursday.

The average bill will go up by around 12p per week after councillors agreed an increase to the District Council's proportion of Council Tax bills.

An average household in the district will pay £35.39 per week in council tax from April 2019, £3.99 of which will go direct to Stroud District Council.

Stroud District Council provides services ranging from waste and recycling to environmental helath, parking, parks and recreation.

They run two leisure centres, a museum and canal restoration as well as animal welfare, benefits administration and advice, elections, youth work and flood management.

As well as the District Council precept, Council Tax bills are set by the county council, the police and crime commissioner, parish and town councils - all of which have increased this year.

Funding for the council is currently uncertain with changes expected to funding schemes, all of which will be the result of a wider reviews being carried out by central government.

Stroud District Council was rated well above the national average in the annual independent residents' satisfaction survey.
