Illegal waste collector caught bragging on social media

Three more fixed penalty notices have been issued by Gloucester City Council in its continued crackdown on fly-tipping and waste offences.

Two fines were issued to an illegal waste collector who had boasted they had taken 16 car loads of rubbish to Hempsted Household Recycling Centre in one day and charged residents for doing so.

A second individual was also caught and issued with a £400 fixed penalty notice for dumping a fridge/freezer, mattress, wooden furniture units, cardboard and general household waste near housing at Lobb Court, in Barton and Tredworth.

Cllr Richard Cook said: "Gloucester City Council is committed to reducing the ongoing issue of fly-tipping.

"We will continue to investigate and take enforcement action against those who selfishly spoil the environment for residents, or attempt to con unsuspecting residents who believe that their waste will be disposed of responsibly.

"We want to make Gloucester a more welcoming place for residents and visitors. I would like to strongly urge anyone who suspects illegal dumping is taking place to report it to the city council."
