How diverse is your workforce?

Gloucestershire County Council's Forwards team are inviting local employers to an event on Friday 25 January aimed to develop inclusive and diverse workforces.

In Gloucestershire, there are approximately 125,620 people with a disability or condition that affects their ability to seek employment. It's estimated that only 48 per cent of those people are currently in paid employment.

In partnership with Richard Graham, MP for Gloucester, the county council's Forwards team is working to encourage employers to recruit more people with disabilities and long term health conditions. This work aims to support the Disability Confident campaign, launched by Government in 2013.

The event is an opportunity for employers to find out more about a growing diverse group of potential employees and the skills they can offer their business.

Cllr Kathy Williams, cabinet member for adult social care delivery at Gloucestershire County Council said:

"Everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, that's why we work with partner organisations to offer a network of support to both individuals and employers. We want local employers to look beyond disability and consider the unique way each person could contribute to their workforce. I would encourage local businesses in Gloucestershire to come along to our event to find out more."

Richard Graham, MP for Gloucester said:

'All employers need to think outside the box and see what skills might be available from candidates with disabilities. Come and be inspired."

The event will take place at Gloucestershire County Council, Shire Hall, Gloucester from 8:30am - 10:30am on Friday 25th January 2019. For more information please contact jon.hansford@gloucestershire.gov.uk
