A Gloucestershire hotel was in the national media spotlight yesterday when it hosted the presentation to the UK's biggest-ever Euromillions lottery winners.

Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester won a record-breaking £184,262,899 last week and went public on Thursday at a glitzy unveiling at the Ellenborough Park, near Cheltenham..

TV presenter Dermot O'Leary introduced the pair who were surrounded by media representatives.

After the champagne corks had stopped popping, the Ellenborough Park tweeted: "We were proud to host The National Lottery press conference this morning, announcing the UK's biggest ever lottery winners, with a whopping £184 million pounds. Congratulations to the lovely winners!"

Joanne Reeves, director of sales and marketing at the Ellenborough Park, revealed: "The booking only came in two days before. We had no idea what it was for. 

"When they began to discuss security I called the PR company and said we had to know. Myself and the general manager Marwan were the only people to know until the evening when we could tell the rest of team.

"We had approximately 30 press in attendance.  The press conference was exciting and it was amazing to see that it started at 10.25am and by 10.45am it was the top story on all media. The couple were very lovely and it was a pleasure to look after them."

Joe and Jess scooped their huge prize with a lucky dip ticket.

Jess, 44, who has two children with Joe, 49, said the win will give them "time to dream".

Joe discovered that he had won when he got up to walk the dogs at 5.15am last Tuesday, reported the BBC..

He waited until his wife's alarm went off before telling her: "I've got a secret, I've got something to tell you."

Jess revealed her initial reaction was disbelief and decided to get on with her routine before the couple confirmed the record win with National Lottery operator Camelot.

They said the win would give them "time to share lots of experiences and go on adventures with our family and friends".

Communications sales manager Joe has been married to Jess, for 11 years. Jess runs the business side of a hairdressing salon with her sister.

They have two primary school-aged children together and Joe has two university-aged children from a previous marriage.

Jess revealed that her dad was a lifelong National Lottery player and her husband took over the mantle when he passed away seven years ago.

The previous record was held by an anonymous winner who banked £170m in October 2019.
