Have your say on Tewkesbury Borough's new Housing Strategy

Tewkesbury Borough Council wants to hear your views on its new Housing Strategy.

Covering both the private and affordable housing sectors, the new strategy focuses on increasing the supply of new homes, regenerating and making best use of existing residences and meeting the needs of homeless households and others with specific housing needs.

It reflects the aims of the Tewkesbury Borough Council Local Plan and recognises the joint housing initiatives with Gloucestershire County Council and the other district councils within Gloucestershire.

The current Housing Strategy runs from 2017 to 2021, but was updated in 2020 to enable its extension to 2022. A public consultation has been launched so that a new strategy can be put in place for the period 2022 to 2026.

You can submit your comments on the strategy until Tuesday, January 4.

The council's lead member for housing, councillor Gill Blackwell, said: "Covid-19 has not only magnified some of the existing challenges we face in drawing up a new housing strategy, such as affordability, but has also presented us with new challenges to how we live and how we work. At the same time, it has demonstrated the extent to which people's quality of life can be enhanced by good quality housing.

"It is therefore more important than ever that members of the public are involved in decision-making about the housing policy for their local areas. This is by no means the final document; merely a starting point to enable us to ascertain people's views on the work we have done so far, and we hope as many as possible will submit their comments on our new strategy by the January deadline."
