Gloucestershire McColl’s store to close

Morrisons is planning to close 132 loss-making McColl's convenience stores.

The McColl's store in Churchdown is one of those set to shut.

The move will put 1,300 jobs at risk, as reported by the BBC. But Morrisons said staff will be offered jobs elsewhere in the business.

Morrisons bought McColl's out of administration in May. It now plans to convert most of the remaining McColl's shops into Morrisons Daily convenience stores

There are currently 1,164 McColl's stores trading, 286 of which already operate as Morrisons Daily stores.

The supermarket chain said all of the stores earmarked for closure are "loss-making" with "no realistic prospect" of recovering soon.

The shops are distributed across England, Scotland and Wales and will be closed over the remainder of this year.

Fifty-five of the stores set to close have a Post Office counter and Morrisons said it will delay the closure of these stores until after Christmas.
