Gloucestershire law firm looks to the future

Law firm Willans LLP has a double reason to celebrate its 75th year.

The Cheltenham company is looking to the future with a modernisation of its offices in Imperial Square and a raft of promotions.

Founded 75 years ago by Gloucestershire lawyer Alec Willans, the firm employs around 100 people and provides legal advice to businesses, individuals, charities and not-for-profit organisations, based locally, nationally and internationally.

The refurbishment will support a move to hybrid working and includes the creation of collaborative meeting and staff social areas with coffee stations, quiet seating and outdoor spaces. It is also installing bike racks and showers to encourage staff to cycle to work.

Meanwhile its longest-serving equity partner Paul Gordon has been promoted to senior partner. He joined the solicitors 16 years ago and has taken the step up following Nicholas Cox's move to consultant, after 25 years' service.

Paul, who is head of the dispute resolution team, specialises in commercial and intellectual property (IP) litigation. The company said his broad-ranging expertise has been an instrumental part of Willans' growth in recent years.

He has won several high-profile cases, including one involving an IP licence and merchandising agreement, after Silverstone-based Formula 1 team, Force India went into liquidation.

Willans has also promoted residential property lawyer Mary Young and wills, trust and probate specialist Laura Stone,to senior associates.

Solicitors Dorcas Guillebaud, Katie Duthie and Jessica Whooley have been promoted to associates.

Bridget Redmond, managing partner of Willans, said: "It's a pleasure to recognise the hard work and commitment of these exceptional lawyers and I'd like to congratulate them on their well-earned promotions.

"They have all demonstrated a dedication to providing a truly personal service for our clients, while demonstrating the highest levels of legal expertise."
