Gloucester thief jailed and banned from city centre

A prolific Gloucester burglar has been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of thefts in the city.

Daniel Sly, aged 43, and of Matson Lane, Matson, was sentenced to two years and five months in prison, reduced to 23 months following an early guilty plea.

He admitted two counts of burglary, two of shoplifting and the theft of a bicycle.

Following the sentence, Sly was also banned from the city centre for the next five years as part of a Criminal Behaviour Order.

The order was put in place after an application by the Gloucester City Neighbourhood Policing Team, to further protect the community from his on-going offending.

The order bans Sly from:

• Entering any member of the Gloucester City Safe Scheme (including member retail parks);

• Using a bicycle other than a nominated bike registered with Gloucestershire Constabulary's bike marking scheme, or to be on route to Bearland Police Station with an unregistered bicycle as part of a pre-arranged appointment to have that bicycle registered;

• Entering any part of the city bounded in blue on the map below, unless to attend a pre-arranged appointment.

PC Rich Parker, of Gloucester NPT, said: "Daniel Sly has caused misery for many in the community for his repeat offending.

"This sentence and Criminal Behaviour Order sends a clear message that the Gloucester Neighbourhood Team will not tolerate the harm any offending causes.

"We will seek these orders from the court to protect our city from harm, working closely with the courts and partner agencies collaboratively to achieve this."
