Gloucester MP joins Ukrainians at rally

Ukrainians and supporters held a rally at Gloucester docks on Saturday to show their solidarity as Russia continues its military attack on the country.

A crowd heard speeches and waved flags and placards expressing their opposition to the invasion.

Among those attending the rally was Gloucester MP Richard Graham.

He said: "What was interesting was the sort of depth of links that Gloucester and the surrounding villages have with the Ukraine which would surprise many people."

He said that the Ukrainian Church and local association and club had been in the city for a long time and over the years some Ukrainians had married local people.

On Sunday, he attended a packed church service in Barton, Gloucester, attended by many from the community.

He said: "There were people with close relations in Ukraine in tears about what's going on and others who were there in solidarity and to share with them that we are all one family here together."
