Former Gloucestershire College student to open top London restaurant

Details have emerged of a forthcoming London restaurant exciting foodies across the capital, due to be opened by probably Gloucestershire College's most famous ever student.

Westminster's luxury Corinthia Hotel has partnered with the man who became famous for running the UK's only two-star Michelin starred pub.

Now also known as a television celebrity chef and presenter, Tom Kerridge is often claimed as a Gloucestershire's own after he spent some of his formative years in the city.

It was last year when his name first became connected with a London restaurant - planned for the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge - but the project never came to pass.

This most recent venture looks definite. According to the hospitality news website Bighospitality.co.uk Thomas kochs, managing director of Corinthia Hotel, called Mr Kerridge the "perfect partner" to open a restaurant with.

Reports state the new restaurant, Kerridge's Bar & Grill, will be able to cope with 90 covers and serve British dishes crated by its namesake and head chef Nick Beardshaw.

A second lighter menu will be served in an adjacent 40-cover bar, including starters such as glazed omlette with lobster thermidor and crab vol-au-vent with avocado, green apple and crab bisque.

Meat will come from Kerridge's own butchers, The Butcher's Tap, and the menu will also boast the likes of triple-cooked chips and duck breast and faggot with savoy cabbage.

It appears some ingredients will be sourced from Gloucestershire, including Cotswold White chicken with braised gem lettuce.

But there will be desserts including Scottish raspberry and rose geranium trifle and twists on classic British dishes, including fish and chips with pease pudding, tartare and matson spiced sauce (no connection to the Gloucester suburb as we understand it).

In keeping with the up-market surroundings the interior will be created by the award-winning designer Dave Collins Studio.
