Former Bourton-on-the-Water tea room set to become pub

Hotel and pub chain Fuller's has announced that it is in the process of buying the former De La Haye's Cafe Tea Room in the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, after the business went into liquidation in 2020.

Occupying a prominent position along Bourton on the Water's main thoroughfare, the building sits adjacent to the Motor Museum and main shopping street.

Previous occupier De La Hayes Restaurants Limited was forced into liquidation in July 2020 due to the coronavirus uncertainty and loss of trade, resulting in the loss of 25 jobs.

Turnover for the now dissolved business reached more than £1 million in the year ending November 2018 and the restaurant received many favourable reviews.

Estate agents Savills were marketing the property for £2.895m, and now Fuller's has announced it is close to completing its purchase of the site.

Within its advertising material, Savills said the restaurant could cater for 110 internal covers and a further 295 covers within two external trade gardens.

A spokesperson for Fuller's said: "We are delighted to be so close to completing our acquisition of this outstanding Cotswolds site for an undisclosed sum.

"As a family company, with a rich heritage, this is a perfect location for a wonderful Fuller's pub and we are looking forward to playing an active role in the community.

"We have been granted planning permission to make some changes and we will be revealing our plans shortly.

"It's a wonderful location and we can't wait to bring the great Fuller's experience of delicious, home-cooked, locally-sourced food, a fantastic range of drinks and outstanding customer service to Bourton-on-the-Water.

"We are hoping to be open early in 2023."
