Fancy getting a bird's eye view of Gloucester from a zip wire?

Tickets have gone on sale for a daredevil zip wire event coming to Gloucester city centre later this month.

Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) says the city will play host to one of the biggest temporary zip wires ever seen in a UK city centre from June 29 - July 1.

Tickets are limited and at £29.95p will be sold on a first come first served basis.

The zip wire which will run about 1,100 feet from TK Maxx Northgate Street, along Southgate Street to Kimbrose Triangle outside Topoly's restaurant just before the Kyneburgh Tower sculpture -known locally as the CD rack.

Gloucester BID says the ride promises real excitement for adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers and for those wanting a different view of the beautiful historic city. It is estimated that riders will reach speeds of about 40 mph, soaring above the roof tops at heights of over 100 feet above the ground.

Organisers have been told that Gloucester will be only the third city in the country to host this event after London and Liverpool, where it has been a huge success. It is expected there will be a lot of demand from people looking to do the ride as part of fundraising for their favourite charity.

Nick Brookes. chairman of Gloucester BID said: "When we surveyed businesses in the BID area, one of the important things they wanted more of was events that would deliver visitors to Gloucester and would raise the profile of the city. Undoubtedly this giant zip wire is going to do both these things and will prove to be a really fantastic attraction for visitors and locals."

Although there is no intention to make a profit from the zip wire, organisers estimate that the income from tickets and sponsorship will cover the cost of bringing the event to Gloucester.
