Fall in profits for Wickes

Home improvement giant, Wickes, saw a big fall in profits for last year.

Pre-tax profits for the retailer, which has stores in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester, fell 38.4% to £40.3 million, as reported by The Times.

Wickes is another victim of the post-lockdown DIY slump, after B&Q owner, Kingfisher, reported a 20% drop in profits earlier this week.

But Wickes reported that its performance is still significantly ahead of its pre-Covid performance.

The retailer also reported a boost in sales from a rise in younger customers, who are choosing to do more DIY even though they are renting.
