Emergency roadworks on M5 motorway in Gloucestershire after carriageway subsidence

Emergency repair work on the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire will take place tonight due to subsidence.

One lane of the southbound carriageway between Junctions 9 and 10 has been closed since around 10am this morning.

The Highways Agency tweeted that the closure will have to be in place for "some time" and advised drivers that journeys will take longer through the evening peak.

They later confirmed that a full inspection of the carriageway was made and that the lane closure will remain in place until the repair work is carried out.

They confirmed: "The repair is planned to take place tonight and will require the closure of lane two as well."
