Logistics firm DHL has revealed plans to invest £482m across its UK operations, in response to a growing demand for home deliveries.
The firm said it would spend £190m setting up 10 new depots and improving 20 others, while creating more than 4,000 jobs.
Around half of the investment will go towards building a new 25,000 sq metre hub in a Segro warehouse park in Coventry, which DHL said will be able to handle more than 500,000 items a day.
It is also spending £64m on upgrading its transport fleet, buying six fully electric trucks, 30 liquefied natural gas trucks and 18 electric tugs.
DHL Parcel UK has reported a 40 per cent rise in volumes since the start of 2020, when the pandemic led to an unprecedented demand for online shopping.
Peter Fuller, the chief executive of DHL Parcel UK, said: "This expansion will put the business at the forefront of sustainable and digital logistics. E-commerce is going to continue to shape the world around us."
There is a large DHL depot at Ashchurch Business Park in Tewkesbury.
