Gloucester could be about to get its third Lidl store if plans to build a 2,000 square metre store in Kingsway are approved by planners next week.
Planning officers have recommended that the plans are approved by Gloucester City Council's planning committee when they meet next week.
The proposal, which has been submitted by Robert Hitchins Ltd is to build on a vacant plot on the corner of Naas Lane and Newhaven Road and bordered to the west by the A38.
It would be built less than half a mile from the existing Asda store in Quedgeley.
The access road to the site from Newhaven Road would be adapted and expanding and car parking for 140 vehicles would be provided alongside the 2,125 square metre store.
According to the plans, the store would be open from 8am through to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
A total of 40 new jobs would be created with 15 full-time members of staff and 25 part time.
The plans state that the building will be built to the "Lidl standard corporate specification"
It added that it would be a "modern building comprising large areas of glazing with crisply detailed materials and features and easily identifiable to customers."
It would be Gloucester's third Lidl superstore adding to existing sites on Eastern Avenue and on Bristol Road.
The German supermarket have recently opened a store on Cheltenham's Tewkesbury Road and have plans to add a town centre outlet close to the Brewery complex.
Planning is also being sought for a site in Lydney.
The plans for the former RAF Quedgeley plot go before the City Council planning committee on September 3.
