County road closed as improvement works take place

A county commuter route will close for three days whilst the road is resurfaced.

The road in Parkend in the Forest of Dean will be improved from 6th-8th December as part of the county council's ongoing upgrade of local roads.

Folly Road links traffic between Parkend and Coleford, and runs past Whitemead Forest Park. For this reason, the county council and contractor Amey have scheduled the resurfacing to happen during the winter, when the road is less busy.

The road surface is reaching the end of its useful life, so as part of the council's promise to upgrade the county's highways network, investment is being made.

The work will take three days, from 6th-8th December when the road will be closed between 7.30am to 5.30pm with diversions in place.

If approaching from the east, take a left turn toward Whitecroft along the B4234. At Whitecroft, turn right along Whitecroft Road then right along Bowson Road to lead onto Parkend Road bringing you to the west side of Folly Road. The diversion is the same in reverse.

The county council appreciates that it is a long diversion, which is due to the rural nature of the area. Most traffic will be able to find shorter routes.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: "Residents may notice that we have increased resurfacing in Gloucestershire. Keeping your highways in great condition is extremely important to us, and this route is being improved because we know it is significant in helping commuters travel between these popular locations."

Cllr Richard Boyles, county councillor for West Dean said: "This is an important route and the resurfacing is going to have a significant benefit for the local community here in West Dean, and is a vital link to Lydney. I'd like to thank the highways team and contractor Amey in advance for this, as well as the council for including us in the county's resurfacing programme."
