County projects shortlisted for civil engineering awards

Two Gloucestershire projects have been shortlisted for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West's 2018 Civil Engineering Awards.

Projects at the B4058 Horsley Hill, Stroud and Wallbridge Lock, Stroud have both been selected.

The Horsley Hill carriageway was remediated through an innovative design and collaboration between GCC, Amey Consulting and Graham Construction. The work has reduced congestion and minimised the risk of future slope failures occurring.

A highly-engineered solution has allowed Wallbridge Lower Lock in Stroud to be fully reopened, over 60 years since the Stroud water Canal was abandoned. The canal works also pave the way for regeneration of the area, with a number of canal-side housing developments underway to make use of this attractive feature.

The2018 Civil Engineering Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity around the South West. It is a chance for projects and organisations from across the region to showcase the fantastic work that is taking place.

From small projects, refurbishment work through to large new build schemes, the awards will showcase the breadth of brilliant work civil engineers are completing every year in the South West.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West Regional Director said: "Our Civil Engineering Awards recognise projects which promote the excellence of the engineering profession.

"The South West is full of innovative and inspiring projects and engineers, from a wide range of sectors and the shortlist for this year's awards really showcases fantastic projects in amazing locations across the region."
