Closure order secured at property in Walton Cardiff following stabbing

A three month closure order has been secured for a property in Walton Cardiff, Tewkesbury, after a stabbing in the area last weekend.

The application, which came from the Tewkesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team and Solace, was granted at a hearing at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (February 8).

The order will be in effect until May 7 and prevents anyone from being inside the property other than staff of the housing association or agents acting on their behalf, Tewkesbury Borough Council and the emergency services from entering the address.

Any other person entering the property during this period can be liable to arrest.

Closure orders can be used to protect victims and communities as they are designed to tackle serious and persistent forms of anti-social behaviour.

They close a property completely or partially, preventing access for three months, with a possible extension to six months.

Inspector Grant White from the Tewkesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We understand the community concern caused by last Sunday's incident and are determined to ensure residents can live without fear of violence.

"We worked as fast as possible to secure this closure order as they are an important tool to help stop this type of anti-social behaviour and keep our communities safe.

A man has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with the incident.

He was released on court bail with conditions not to go to Tewkesbury or the Walton Cardiff area and is next due to appear at Gloucester Crown Court on March 1.

Two other people who were arrested in connection with the incident on February 5 were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The victim of the stabbing, a man in his 20s, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and has since been discharged following treatment.
