Clarkson Evans goes from strength to strength with support from Sherbornes

Gloucestershire-based Clarkson Evans has cemented its position as the UK's leading electrical contractor for new houses.

The company wired more than 24,000 homes in 2021. Crowned as Contractor of the Year in the last Housebuilder Awards before Covid, the firm turned over £65 million in its last financial year.

Clarkson Evans is just one example of a fast-growing organisation which has been supported by Cheltenham-based Sherbornes Solicitors, as the business has developed.

Based at Meteor Business Park, Staverton, Clarkson Evans has over 850 staff and 21 branches around the country. The firm dates back to 1981, when Steve Evans, who is still chairman today, founded SP Evans Electrical Contractors.

Clarkson Evans was a member of Sherbornes Acturus service when it was launched in September 2013. Acturus is the firm's unique, fixed-price advisory employment law service, giving businesses the benefits of an in-house legal team at a fraction of the cost.

Clarkson Evans has used Sherbornes for all its business law requirements over the last seven years. When there was a management buyout of a controlling share of the business earlier this year, Sherbornes was instructed by the management team.

Lindsey Young, chief executive of Clarkson Evans, said: "We generally have a strong focus on self-sufficiency and managing everything in-house, but from time to time we need the backing of external experts.

"Sherbornes is a great example of this, and they have genuinely played an important role in our success. We have worked very closely with several members of the team and have always found them to offer great advice and a prompt service. You always feel that they are offering you advice that is 100 per cent in the best interests of your business and we greatly value their no-nonsense approach."

Matt Lennon, a solicitor in the corporate team at Sherbornes, said: "We are delighted with the way in which our relationship with Clarkson Evans has developed over the years. We are very mindful of the trust our clients place in us and it has been fantastic to see Clarkson Evans grow into the success story that it is today. We very much look forward to continuing to work with them as they continue to grow their business even more in the future."
