City's regeneration gathers pace

The £141 million redevelopment of Bakers Quay in Gloucester is fast taking shape.
The once derelict site next to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal and the Docks is rapidly undergoing regeneration, as our pictures show.
The developers Rokeby Merchant Developments (Gloucester) Limited are building a 104-bedroom Premier Inn and 47 flats inside the historic Provender Mill. Gloucester-based Barnwood Construction are the lead contractors.
The build of Bakers Quay will consist of two phases, with the first set to be completed by next July. This will see a 1,800-square-feet Costa Coffee Drive Thru launch, as well as a Beefeater restaurant in the site's 5,634-square-feet former engine shed.
Following a competition, the Provender reception area design has been revealed.
"As soon as you walk through the entrance doors of Provender, we wanted to create a space that reminded you of the history of the original building and connected you with your surroundings", said Monica Lenore, the designer.
The Provender reception will include reclaimed wood, environmentally friendly LED lighting, porcelain tile cladding, designer pendant lighting, artwork, bronze tables, a velvet sofa and metallic porcelain tile floor throughout.
Monica added, "Many residents will remember the iconic blue coloured grain shaft and elevator. We wanted to preserve the memory of that historic part of the building and have recreated the tone and feel of that in a stunning 12-panel feature mural.
"The organic nature of the wall will reflect not only the iconic colour but also the texture of the wood and metal that featured in the original building. We are thrilled and excited to have been chosen by Rokeby Merchant Developments to design the reception for the Provender residents and look forward to the next phase of development.
"This is a hugely exciting time for Gloucester and we couldn't be more proud to be a part of it."
