Cirencester drug dealer’s designer collection to be sold to pay back proceeds of crimes

A 19-year-old Cirencester drug dealer's collection of designer trainers, purchased from his ill-gotten gains, are to be sold to pay back some of the £32,000 proceeds of his crimes.

Cordell Patterson, of Burge Court, Cirencester, is currently serving a custodial sentence of three years and four months imposed on him in March 2022.

On Wednesday (July 6) at a proceeds of crime hearing at Gloucester Crown Court, the prosecution and defence agreed that Patterson had benefited to the tune of £32,671.84 from his drug dealing operation.

It was also agreed that Patterson currently has assets of £9,043.33 which can be seized from him under the Proceeds of Crime Act. This will be obtained by the sale of Patterson's collection of designer trainers at auction.

Sarah Jenkins, defending, told the court at an earlier hearing: "Patterson entered the world of drug dealing because he was a heavy user of cannabis. But after a while he accrued a drug debt that needed to be paid off. He was later given drugs on credit to set up his own operation.

"But by the time of Patterson's arrest this debt had been paid, but he had carried on dealing. He chose to live this way of life, despite being immature as he was associating with others who had a passion for designer clothing and trainers."

Judge Ian Lawrie QC quipped yesterday "He has a fantastic collection of designer trainers. It's a shame it's not a crime for bad taste!"
