Cheltenham Wetherspoons on the market

A Wetherspoons pub in Cheltenham is one of 32 nationally up for sale.

JD Wetherspoon has instructed commercial estate agents CBRE and Savills to sell 32 pubs across town and city centre locations in England, including The Bank House on Clarence Street, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The news will come as a blow to regulars at the Cheltenham boozer, which will continue to operate as a Wetherspoons until it is sold.

The 10 freehold and 22 leasehold pubs are being considered for sale either individually, in small packages or as a portfolio. The agents are targeting existing operators, new entrants and buyers seeking alternative uses, subject to planning consent.

Paul Breen, director in the licensed leisure team at Savills, said the venues "are well configured and fitted to a high standard, which will make them appealing to a broad range of potential buyers".

Toby Hall, senior director at CBRE, said: "The excellent mix of locations in this portfolio is rarely seen in the market. We believe the pubs represent an excellent opportunity for existing pub operators and new entrants."
