Council and Boots Corner protesters on collision course today

It is difficult to think of a more controversial highways decision in Cheltenham than the closure of Boots Corner.
The trial has threatened to make social media white hot over the monthsand burst one or two blood vessels since the borough council made the decision to close the High Street-splitting thoroughfare to all but buses, taxis and bicycles.
On one side businesses in the vicinity of the corner have complained their trade has suffered and continues to do so, with some visitors to the town have backing them up.
Countering that the council and others have said the scheme has benefited shoppers and helped make possible the early success of the new John Lewis department store and on-going Brewery development in the lower High Street.
This evening, at 6pm at the municipal offices, interested parties will face one another down at an extraordinary meeting of the borough council.
On the agenda will be the scheme and nothing but the scheme - including public questions and answers, questions from council members and a report from the cabinet member for development and safety at the borough on the petition to re-open Boots Corner
There will also be an update on the Cheltenham Transport Plan.
