New boss for Dale Vince's Green Britain Group

Asif Rehmanwala has been made CEO of Dale Vince's Green Britain Group – the move adding to Mr Rehmanwala's busy desk as CEO of green electricity pioneers Ecotricity and vice-chairman of Forest Green Rovers (FGR). He is also a non-executive director with Gloucestershire Cricket Club.

Mr Rehmanwala said: "Green Britain Group is at the forefront of the global green industrial revolution. Forward-thinking, innovative, low-carbon – our businesses are pioneers in the new green economy.

"Led by founder Dale Vince OBE, the companies in the group are fighting the climate crisis by offering consumers and businesses another way of doing things in the industries that create the most atmospheric carbon - energy, transport and food. Hopefully all these sectors will thrive in the sustainability space to benefit generations to come."

As the world's first green electricity company, Ecotricity operates "a unique model," Mr Rehmanwala said. "We use our customers' energy bills to fund the building of new sources of Green Energy. We like to refer to this as turning 'bills into mills' - energy bills into windmills. We're a not-for-dividend company – all of our profits go into our mission."

Key focal points for the company include energy (Ecotricity and Britwind Limited), transport, food (under the Devil's Kitchen label), the Ecotalk Mobile phone network, Nailsworth-based English Football League team FGR and the ethical and sustainable Skydiamond production enterprise, the latter garnering warm words from Vogue magazine: "Skydiamond isn't simply aiming to be carbon neutral, but climate positive – removing more greenhouse gases from the atmosphere than you are producing – and dazzlingly so."

At home FGR games during the 2022-23 season, the club has been cross-promoting the business by awarding a lucky ticket holder with a SkyDiamond with a value of around £2,000.

On his recent appointment to as vice-chairman at FGR, Mr Rehmanwala added: "I'm looking forward to working with everyone on the exciting future ambition of the club."
