Businesses support move to drive Forest economy

Up to 100 delegates from the private and public sector came together at a second Forest Economic Partnership open meeting.

The event on Monday 16 April at Vantage Point Business Park, Mitcheldean, discussed positive action to secure the future of the district's economy.

The Partnership's new branding was showcased for the first time and was well received by the attendees who ranged from the owners of small business ventures to representatives of large national organisations.

Andrew Callard, chairman of the Forest Economic Partnership said: "Thank you to everyone that attended the second meeting.

The large turnout is testament to the Partnership beginning to be recognised as a vessel to advance the Forest of Dean as a forward-thinking area when it comes to future business.

"This second meeting was based on lively group discussions. Attendees split into four groups and focussed on important topics; digital connectivity, education and skills, the Severn bridge and cross border working, transport and infrastructure.

"As a Partnership we have made a great start identifying and defining issues facing people who live, work and come to visit the Forest. Four new sub-groups are now tasked to identify actions and report back to the next meeting in August."

Councillor Tim Gwilliam, leader of the Forest of Dean District Council added: "I was really pleased with the energy in the room. The people who came along brought with them a vast range of knowledge and skills which will help to put the Forest of Dean on the UK business map."
