Business people bolster board of Cheltenham Trust

Three new faces have joined the board of the organisation responsible for Cheltenham's £300 million iconic cultural and leisure sites.

They are Louis Eperjesi, CEO at Tyman Plc, Maxine Melling, previously pro vice chancellor at the University of Gloucestershire and Sian Morgan, from Cheltenham Ladies' College.

The trust is an independent registered charity responsible for Cheltenham's cultural and leisure sites, including The Wilson art gallery and museum, Cheltenham Town Hall, Pittville Pump Room, Leisure at Cheltenham and the Prince of Wales stadium.

The three new appointments are announced as the first phase of work as part of £2.5m transformation at Leisure At nears completion.

"We have a number of major projects currently underway or in the pipeline, including the transformation of the Town Hall and the major refurbishment of Leisure At, which will see a range of new and upgraded facilities," said Peter Harkness, chair of the board, a former journalist who has worked in the media industry for more than 40 years and is also chairman of several publishing and e-commerce businesses.

"We believe that all three trustees bring valuable expertise to the board and I look forward to working with them on future projects."

Raised and educated in Cheltenham, Louis Eperjesi is CEO for Tyman Plc, an international publicly quoted company, supplying building products in America, Europe, and Asia.

With more than 30 years' experience in the University sector, Maxine Melling began her career at North Gloucestershire College and then as director of library and student support at Liverpool John Moores University, before becoming pro vice chancellor at the University of Gloucestershire.

She is a trustee for the Gladstone Library, chair of the Cheltenham Civic Society and continues to write on the role of libraries.

At Cheltenham Ladies College Sian Morgan's main focus is to bring to life the development vision for the college, including a recent major fundraising project for a new Health and Fitness Centre.

Previously, she was managing director of Cheltenham Festivals and prior to this ran the Blue Yonder internet server provision for Telewest.

Established in 2014, the trust aims to engage audiences through the arts, heritage, performance, tourism, sport, and play and wellbeing opportunities.
