Punchline Business and Community Champion: Pennant manufacturing and donating PPE

Staverton-based Pennant has been manufacturing visors for the NHS and care homes in Gloucestershire and beyond.

The company, which provides technical training solutions and software products and services to train the next generation of engineers, has donated safety visors to help protect frontline staff actively fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

That's why Punchline has nominated them as our latest Business and Community Champion - an initiative backed by GFirst LEP, the Growth Hub, Gloucestershire County Council and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Recognising the current shortfalls in the supply of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) within the NHS and particularly in Cheltenham, Pennant's engineering team collaborated with Dr Juan Dominguez-Robles, Dr Eneko Larraneta Landa and Dr Dimitrios Lamprouthe from the School of Pharmacy from Queens University in Belfast to establish 3D printing of essential face screen visors.

Dr Dimitrios Lamprou said: "Everyone is thinking how they can help in this crisis situation. I've worked with 3D printers to produce a number of pharmaceutical devices to help patients, so together with my colleagues we decided to work on the prototype already developed in Spain to produce a mask that would work for healthcare staff here. "The masks can be produced relatively low-cost and we are providing these as a donation to the NHS in these crucial times."

Pennant has delivered visors to Covid clinics in Cheltenham and Harrogate, as well as two care homes in Bath and a medical facility in Cirencester. Production will continue at Pennant for as long as it is needed.

St Pauls medical centre in Cheltenham has established a local GP-led Covid 19 Clinic, aimed at treating the local community. Pennant was proud to donate its first batch of screen masks to the clinic in order to help protect our NHS frontline staff as they fight against the virus.
