Building company raises nearly £5,000 for homeless charity

A Gloucester-based building company raised money for Gloucestershire Nightstop, one of its charities of the year, throughout 2017.

And Sam Carter and Gavin Carter from EG Carter & Co were pleased to present a cheque for £4,781.42 to Ciaran Murphy, manager at Gloucestershire Nightstop. The money was raised by employees of the company through a range of events, including a charity football match, cake sales, quiz nights and a 500-mile bike ride.

While visiting the charity, Sam and Gavin met Kevin and Becky Wilcox, who volunteer with Gloucestershire Nightstop.

Kevin and Becky support the charity by being hosts, opening their home to young people to provide safety in times of crisis.

The couple, along with their daughter Phoebe, have been volunteering since 2011 and have provided a home for 75 young people from across the county.

Some have stayed for just one night, while others have stayed for as long as four months whilst finding their feet. Kevin and Becky have provided over 1,300 bed nights for young people without a place to stay.

Ciaran Murphy said: "Having volunteers like Kevin and Becky really helps make the charity what it is today. Without this type of support, Gloucestershire Nightstop wouldn't be able to function.

"We would also like to thank E G Carter & Co Ltd for their support throughout 2017. Without the help of local businesses and fundraising we wouldn't be able to help as many young people as we currently do."
