Brits disrupting their sleep with gadgets
4th May 2017
The average British adult spends 57 minutes on their gadgets in bed before going to sleep, according to new research.
Nearly a third (32%) of people fall asleep watching television in bed, according to a survey carried out by Laptops Direct.
More than two-third of Brits use their smartphones in bed and one in five use a tablet.
Those aged 18-24 were most likely to use tech in bed, racking up an average of 71 minutes in front of the screen.
And you can be certain that teenagers are using them for just as long, if not longer. Using gadgets just before sleep can lead to a disturbed night, which is not what teenagers need when they are revising for their GCSEs and A Levels.
Sleep is essential not just for our health, but for our concentration. Smartphones and tablets have revolutionised the way we do business and they're great for entertainment too. But if we want to be on top of our game at work or at school the next morning, we need to switch off! And parents need to confiscate the iPhones and iPads from their kids.
