Be prepared: main road will be closed for repairs

Motorists are being warned to expect nightly road closures on an important stretch of road in Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire County Council has announced that resurfacing work on the A46 Stroud Road and Bath Road will go ahead from 6-18 April.

Night closures will be in place between 7pm-7am, to complete the work as swiftly as possible and keep traffic running smoothly for businesses, schools, road users and residents.

During the work, asphalt 13 times the weight of the space shuttle (1,000 tonnes) will be laid over an area 8,000 metres square, or one-and-a-half times as big as a football field.

The road will be open around the clock during weekends. A signed diversion using equivalent 'A' roads will be in place during the closure.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "The county council has almost completed its yearly programme of resurfacing.

"This work in Nailsworth will help make this important stretch of road smooth and pothole free in the future."

Cllr Dorcas Binns, county councillor for Nailsworth, said: "This work will be a great improvement and reduce the need for roadworks in the future.

"I am delighted that Nailsworth residents will benefit from the county' council's highway investment this year."
