Parade through Gloucester

The City of Gloucester will pay tribute in the form of a parade from Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday, June 29.

Starting at 12:30pm, it will leave via Westgate and Southgate Streets to the Docks, entering the Docks just before the Tall Ship pub. It then turns towards Back Badge Square, finishing in front of the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum at Gloucester Docks.

The Cotswold Male Voice Choir will keep the public entertained after the parade - providing a nautical twist with a couple of land-based weepies to add contrast. This will be followed by a NAAFI Bop style element with interchanges between The Hush and Tyler Evans.

Stalls from military charities such as RBL and SSAFA will be set up within the docks as well as an APC 432 and a REME Service Recovery Vehicle.

Visit the Jet Age Museum

A celebration to show appreciation of the work of the Armed Forces will be held at Jet Age Museum on Saturday, June 29.

As well as a display of military artefacts and equipment, the celebration will feature a display of the fabulous Royal Air Forces Association tapestries depicting aircraft manufacturing and operation in the county of Gloucestershire over the last 100 years.

There will also be a specific First World War and Second World War artefact display, along with the county's impressive band of RFC and RAF re-enactors.

There will be representation from the many notable and vital Armed Forces charities that do so much to support our veterans, as well as all the normal attractions of Jet Age Museum, including on this day an Armed Forces Day BBQ.

Watch a fly-past

Weather permitting, an historic Spitfire will fly over Gloucester on Saturday, June 29.

Precise timings have been released for the fly-past, which will see an Supermarine Spitfire of the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly over the city.

Sightings of the aircraft are expected in Gloucester docks at 1.48pm and 1:51pm at the Jet Age Museum.

Picnic in the park

An event aimed at celebrating Armed Forces Day as well as raising awareness about how the NHS are improving care for veteran, reservist and serving members of our armed forces and their families is taking place on Sunday, 30 June in Cheltenham.

Running from 12 - 4pm in Sandford Park, the event is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, RAFA, 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust and NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Promising to be a fun afternoon for all the family with fairground rides and lots of stalls, it provides an opportunity to celebrate the recent Veteran Aware accreditation achieved by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Natalie Bynorth, event organiser, operational lead for the Armed Forces and NHS nurse said: "We are so excited about the event and would like to encourage the local community to join in the celebrations and bring their families along to what is set to be an entertaining day.

"As well as having lots of fun on the fairground, stalls and face painting alongside entertainment from the Innsworth Military Wives Choir and the Salvation Army Band, it gives us an opportunity to highlight the support that is available for members of our armed forces, veterans and their families across our county."
