Asda launches first ever meal deal

Asda has launched its first ever fixed-price meal deal.

The meal deal, which has replaced the 3 for 2 deal at Asda's Food to Go counters, includes a main, snack and drink for £3.74 - making it the lowest priced non-membership meal deal on the market, with no loyalty cards needed to access the savings.

The £3.74 deal is available in all 478 Asda Express stores, in addition to the supermarkets.

It means Asda customers can save up to 49% on buying the items individually outside of the deal.

All products within the food to go fixture are included in the set price, with 132 mains, 336 snacks and 222 drinks to choose from.

Currently, a Tesco meal deal is £3.85 for Clubcard holders and £4.25 for others, while a Sainsbury's deal is £3.95 for everyone. Only Morrisons undercuts the Asda price, but the £3.60 meal deal requires a membership card, otherwise it is £4.

Amy Wotherspoon, buyer of Food to Go at Asda, said: "At Asda, we believe great value should be available to everyone. That's why we're launching the new £3.74 meal deal that is completely open to all customers - with no app or membership required, and a big range of products to choose from so there's something for everyone."

The retailer expects to sell more than 700,000 meal deals in this first week. Its current best-selling main is the classic Asda Cheese & Onion Sandwich (£1.42), which is currently selling over 50,000 a week.

If you really want to make the most of the meal deal, the biggest saving is on the chicken and bacon triple wrap (£3.12), with the Asda Toffee Apple Slices (£1.48) and a Starbucks Grande Cup (£2.78), which would cost £7.38 individually - making a total saving of £3.64 or 49.32%.
