A 39-year-old man from Gloucester is in police custody after an incident which caused a Kingsholm street to be closed on Wednesday.

Alvin Street was cordoned off during the afternoon and a small number of people were evacuated by the police after reports of a person at an address making threats of harm.

The evacuated residents were taken to the Roots Café on Alvin Street before being allowed back to their homes when the cordon was taken down at around 8pm.

In a statement Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that the incident had been safely resolved.

The statement said: "PCSOs will remain in the area for the rest of the evening to provide reassurance.

"We'd like to thank the public for their support and co-operation while police brought the challenging situation to a peaceful and safe resolution."
