Active Gloucestershire CEO announces departure

Active Gloucestershire has announced that its chief executive, Tom Beasley, will be stepping down after more than seven years with the organisation, including five as CEO.

The charity has now launched its search for a new leader to continue its mission of helping people across the county move more and enjoy healthier and more connected lives.

Tom first joined Active Gloucestershire in 2018 and became CEO in 2020, taking up the role just as the country entered its first Covid lockdown.

Under his leadership, Active Gloucestershire steered through the challenges of the pandemic while setting a bold new strategy to make physical activity a priority for the county. This work has helped to secure lasting commitments and investment from partners including Sport England and NHS Gloucestershire, strengthening the organisation's position at the heart of the county's health and wellbeing sector.

Alongside his role at Active Gloucestershire, Tom has been a valued leader and advocate across the voluntary, community, and health sectors. He has mentored and coached colleagues in partner organisations and served as vice chair of the Gloucestershire Health & Wellbeing Board and Integrated Care Partnership, ensuring that physical activity was championed as a central part of improving health outcomes locally.

Tom said: "I'm proud of the achievements made during my time at Active Gloucestershire and I'm leaving with many incredible memories. The organisation is in the strongest possible position to continue and build on the strong foundations we've laid together, and I look forward to seeing its future impact. I'm excited to share details of the next stage of my career in the coming weeks."

Emma Owen, chair of trustees, said: "On behalf of the board, I want to thank Tom for everything he has brought to Active Gloucestershire and to the wider county during his time with us. He has guided us through some extraordinary challenges, and his vision has helped shape a strong platform for our future.

"This is a special moment for us as we step into the next exciting chapter of our journey. We are now looking for a new leader who shares our passion for making Gloucestershire a healthier and more active county."

Tom is due to leave Active Gloucestershire at the end of October. The recruitment process for the new chief executive is now open, with Active Gloucestershire inviting applications from individuals who can bring fresh energy and vision to drive forward the charity's strategy.
