Choosing to celebrate her 89 years soaring through the skies above Gloucestershire, Betty Bromage, from Cheltenham, hopes to make it into the record books by becoming the world's oldest female wing walker.

In 2017, aged 88, Betty's second wing walk  earned her the badge of oldest UK female wing walker, but she is hoping to take her daredevil record breaking exploits further this year by gliding her way into the Guinness World Records with her latest 200 foot high wing walk.

Betty is currently waiting to hear back from Guinness to see if she has made it into the record books. She said, "I first took to the skies three years ago, spurred on by the little daredevil in me and my desire to do something out of the ordinary to raise funds for local charities. It's a great thrill being up there and I just want to prove that you are never too old to do these things! Records were made to be broken."

Betty, a former nurse who lives in a retirement home in Cheltenham, hopes the the stunt will raise funds for her local hospice, Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice. Hospice care is a cause close to Betty's heart after losing her sister Cathleen to cancer and the loss of her sister in law Margaret, who received care from the Cheltenham based hospice.

Betty said, "Sue Ryder and the care they give means so much to me, so I wanted to raise funds for them with my third wing walk. My knees are knocking a bit at the thought of getting back up on the plane again but I have amazing support and I can't thank my pilot, Mike Denith, enough for all his help and very kind offer to do the flight for free so all the funds donated will go straight to the hospice."

"We hope people will join us in wishing for fairer weather. It can be a bit windy and wobbly up there, and I am not relishing the thought of taking on the 'Beast from the East' 200 foot up standing on the wings of a plane!"

During the experience, Betty plans to wear a Go Pro camera strapped to her chest to capture a Betty's eye-view of the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside below.

Betty is an inspiration and everyone at the hospice is eagerly following her story, hoping for good weather and keeping their fingers crossed she will be rewarded by making it into the record books!"
