£1 million makeover of Brockworth Sports Centre

A new partnership between Henley Bank High School and Halo Leisure has started with a £1 million upgrade to Brockworth Sports Centre.

The refurbishment will mean local people can work out and wind down in the brand new gym, group exercise space as well as the pool with its new family friendly changing facilities.

The partnership means the school will still own all its leisure buildings and facilities and have a big say on how they are run and developed, especially when it comes to what's on offer.

But award-winning social enterprise and registered charity Halo Leisure will be responsible for managing and maintaining the sports centre for up to 15 years.

This is the second centre Halo has opened in Gloucester in recent months. Holmleigh Park Sports Centre in Gloucester went through a similar £1 million makeover and opened its doors in October.

Stephen Derry, headteacher at Henley Bank High School, said: "We wanted to find a partner who could make a substantial investment into our Sports Centre so that we could give the best opportunities possible not just to our students, but to the wider community too.

"We have seen the way Halo has transformed other leisure centres, and the dramatic impact they have had on visitor numbers - and therefore to the health of the communities around them.

"We're delighted with the renovations and the new facilities, and are very excited to continue working with Halo to provide an even better facility for our students and local community."

Scott Rolfe, Halo's chief executive said: "We are delighted to be selected by the school as the operational partner in the delivery of their leisure services. Our social enterprise business model and registered charity status allows us to trade for social purposes and 'not for profit', something the school recognised as a sign of quality and strength.

"The £1m investment is only the beginning. We're incredibly excited about what we can achieve to get even more local people more active more often.

"Our team is ready to welcome local residents to a gym workout, a group exercise class in the pool or exercise area or a session in the pool "
