Gloucestershire County Council has concluded a successful first week of the new Gloucester Library, which is now based at the University of Gloucestershire's City Campus on Northgate Street.
The relocation marks a major step forward in delivering modern, inclusive and accessible library services for the people of Gloucester.

The opening day on Monday, October 13, began with a ceremonial welcome from Gloucester's Town Crier, who officially opened the library at 9am, ringing in a new era for the city's cultural and educational life.
The day saw an incredible response from the community, with over 1,200 visitors by 5pm, showing the excitement and support for this new chapter in the city's cultural life.
The transition from Brunswick Road was celebrated with a symbolic "Pass the Book" event, where members of the public formed a human chain to transfer books from the old site to the new.
Among the titles passed were Jilly Cooper's Between the Covers, Great Expectations and The Tailor of Gloucester in multiple languages, all reflecting the city's literary heritage and its hopes for the future.
The new library offers a host of exciting features, including:
- Increased shelving capacity and expanded collections
- A bespoke open-plan space on one floor
- A vibrant children's area with brand-new furniture and fittings
- A dedicated, self-contained Lab space, ideal for workshops, creative sessions and community events
- Comfortable study areas and a meeting room, available for private hire
- Updated technology, including mobile printing and enhanced digital access
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member for libraries, said: "We're delighted to open Gloucester Library at its new home in City Campus. Being closer to transport links, shops and key community services means it's easier than ever for people to enjoy everything the library offers and the response from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive.
"It's a modern, inclusive library that truly serves the community, where everyone can learn and connect."
