Riding for a cause close to their hearts

A group of former Gloucester Rugby players are gearing up for a 100-mile cycle ride in aid of 4Ed.

Ex-Gloucester player Ed Slater, now 35, retired from the game in July 2022 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).

The 4Ed campaign was set up following Ed's diagnosis, providing support for families affected by MND.

A group of 24 are taking part in a 100-mile Slater Cup Charity Ride from Kingsholm to Welford Road, home of Slater's former club Leicester Tigers, on Friday, March 22.

The group includes Pete Glanville, Carl Hogg, Dean Ryan, Rob York, Lee Fortey, Gary Young, Rich Molloy, Richard Rudge, Rich Street, Tim Jones and Stu and Matt Diesel, alongside a group of supporters.

A spokesman said: "Our journey isn't just about the 100 miles on the road; it's about making a difference and supporting a cause close to our hearts. This ride is 4Ed.

"By supporting this fundraiser you will be directly helping hundreds of families living with MND in Gloucestershire to access urgent financial and psychological support, allowing them to concentrate on the important things without the new pressures in front of them."
